On July 29, 1867, Captain John Derst established Derst Baking Company at the corner of Broughton and Abercorn Streets in Savannah, launching a legacy that has spanned four generations and more than 150 years of quality baking.

The original recipe for Captain Derst’s Bread, which is in his own handwriting, is in the safe keeping of the Derst Family. To commemorate and honor this historical American baker, we lovingly bake and package his iconic bread in brown bags reminiscent of the paper bags from days gone by.

Today, Derst Baking Company has added other varieties of bread to the fine line of Captain John Derst Bakery Products. We hope you enjoy them all!
